Tjaard has been working in the legal profession in the Netherlands since 1983 and is the founder of OTIS in Spain. In 2005 he started a branch in Barcelona.

“I noticed that many Dutch people in Spain were facing legal issues and could not find the support they needed. I wanted to help these people in their own language. The legal system in Spain works completely differently to that in the Netherlands. The language and cultural differences in particular cause problems”.

With a law firm in Barcelona, he clearly fulfilled a need. Nowadays, OTIS also has offices in Marbella, Madrid, Sevilla, Ibiza and Mallorca. He is proud of his company and describes it as an “inspiring working environment with passionate and professional staff”.

Why did Tjaard choose to become a lawyer?
“Because of the versatility and challenges you can find in this profession. The ability to think strategically based on technical knowledge, among other things. Dealing with people’s interests and their wishes is also very inspiring. In addition, I always continue to think along with them.” His drive, ability to listen and creativity come in very handy here. When Tjaard is not at work he enjoys music or a good book. He also gets very enthusiastic about skiing and sailing.

Tjaard has registered the following area of law in the Register of Legal Entities of the Dutch Bar Association: Corporate law – This registration obliges him to obtain ten training points every calendar year in that registered field of law, according to the standards of the Dutch Bar Association.
