If you are buying or renting a property in Spain, going to work, starting a business, opening a bank account or otherwise becoming involved with the country, you will need a NIE. A NIE is the “Número de Identidad de Extranjero”. It is an identification number for non-Spaniards.

There are different ways to obtain the NIE. You can apply for the NIE from your home country at the Spanish consulate. You must make an appointment in advance and bring a number of documents, as well as pay an amount for administration costs. This normally takes very long.

If you need a NIE in the short term, our office can help you with this. We can apply for a NIE for you from Spain. The waiting time for this is approximately one to two weeks. Our office must, however, have a power of attorney drawn up by a civil-law notary. We can also help you with this.
